Every bag sold by VINTAGIO is authenticated by hand, one by one, before it goes on sale. We do not deal in replicas and we never list a piece we are not certain about. Authenticity is not an option — it is the condition on which we work.

Why authentication matters

The market for vintage and pre-owned designer bags is full of increasingly sophisticated counterfeits. Buying a second-hand luxury bag without guarantees means risking thousands of euros on a fake. How we authenticate

Each piece goes through a detailed, point-by-point inspection:

• Materials and leather — we check the grain, texture, smell and treatment of the leather, canvas and fabrics against each maison's original standards.
• Stitching — stitch count, regularity, thread colour and angle. Every fashion house has a recognisable stitch: counterfeits almost always get this wrong.
• Hardware and zips — weight, finish, logo engravings, and the operation of clasps and zippers. Genuine metal components have a heft and precision that fakes cannot replicate.
• Logos and monograms — alignment, symmetry, proportions and placement.
• Serial numbers, date codes and heat stamps — we verify the presence, position and consistency of identifying codes with the stated era and model.
• Construction and finishing — structure, lining, labels, rivets and interior details.
